House of Wisdom for Kids & Teens

Classes for Muslim Children (Ages 8 to 17 Years)

House of Wisdom for Kids, Teens & Adults

At House of Wisdom Institute, we teach live zoom courses in English to introduce students to the contributions that Muslim cultures and Islamic civilization have made to our modern world.

We at House of Wisdom Institute are mission-driven and seek to bring to light an often unseen history. In our zoom courses, we share the many contributions Islamic civilization and Muslim cultures have made to the world we all live in today.

The Islamic world and the West have been influencing each other since much further back in history than is widely understood. For example, during the Golden Age of Islam, in multiple centers of scholarship across the Islamic world, scholars, thinkers, and inventors came together from all over the world to forge new paths. This new knowledge made its way to the West, laid the foundations for the European Renaissance, and shaped life into our modern era in ways we take for granted globally today. To offer one example among many, the establishment of hospitals as professionally-run institutions for the public good was a new concept that emerged during the Golden Age of Islam, then traveled from East to West, and came to Europe in the medieval era.

Our courses and teaching style are designed to engage students, to elicit participation and curiosity. We tell amazing stories and use multimedia tools and hands-on activities to facilitate learning. We make our material accessible, help students see that what they are learning is relevant to their lives, and facilitate a sense of connection to Islamic civilization.

Learning Begins With Us

At an age-appropriate level for each of our two student groups  (8-11 years and 12-17 years), we discuss contributions in philosophy & humanism, science & technology, and art & design. Class sizes are small (9 to 12 students) and we meet once per week. With the younger age group, we include songs, games, and short videos. Our teacher is engaging,  interactive, knowledgeable about the material, and includes hands-on activities in art and calligraphic expression.

Who our Courses & Classes are for:

We welcome a wide range of students, from those who are religiously observant Muslims to families and individuals that identify primarily as culturally Muslim, and to anything in between. We appreciate the wide range of Muslims in terms of culture, national origin, faith, and sect, and take a non-denominational stance and encourage questions and open discussion on all topics.

While our primary focus is on filling the gaps in Western education for Muslim students and adults, we also welcome students who do not identify as Muslim who want to learn about the centuries of cross-pollination of ideas between Islamic civilization and the West, because we believe it is important for all of us to have this fuller sense of the history that has shaped the world we all share today.
